Red Paint Powwow
It’s Powwow time! The 11th Red Paint Powwow and Indian Market is back in Southwestern New Mexico. This international, Intertribal event is scheduled for November 15, 16 and 17, 2024 at WNMU’s Old James Stadium in Silver City, New Mexico. The Red Paint Powwow is a community sponsored event in Grant County, New Mexico, and we need your help to fund this amazing celebration which includes the popular Indian Market. Powwow time is a Native Peoples’ way of meeting together to join in dancing and singing and making and renewing friendships. It is an event the entire family can enjoy.
The Red Paint Powwow includes a variety of dances with their own meanings and dance styles along with participation of drum groups, vendors, and food booths. The Red Paint Powwow helps to celebrate and recognize the Apache people of the Southwest, along with numerous other participating Indigenous Tribes. With a daily attendance of 500 to 800 visitors and participants per day, many have awaited the return of this social and competitive Powwow. TheRed Paint Powwow is a tribal effort to re-establish Southwest New Mexico as a native venue for ceremonies and gatherings to highlight and share Apache Lifeways, Culture, and History. The Chiricahua Apache Nation, CANF, and RPP have been the recipient of several funding awards in past years. The Powwow committee, as in the past, will research and utilize all funding opportunities including local lodger’s tax donations, local and national grants. Many of the awarded funds are for specific expenditures. They do not cover dance competition prize money or miscellaneous operating expenses. It is your generous donations that will provide the prize money and cover the cost of putting on the Red Paint Powwow and Indian Market. Your donation is tax-deductible through the Chiricahua Apache Nation National Foundation, A Southwest New Mexico Non-profit Tribal entity. Donors will be recognized in all media campaigns and promotions and will be announced throughout the event.
